DISC, Hogan & 360°: Which Assessment Is Right for Your Team?
Three of the most powerful behavioral diagnostics in leadership development - and how to know which one your organization actually needs.

Stop guessing. Start measuring.
Every leadership team I work with eventually reaches the same moment: "We think we know what's going on, but we're not sure. Can we actually measure it?"
The answer is yes - and the tools are better than they've ever been. But with DISC, Hogan, and 360° evaluations all on the table, most leaders aren't sure which one reaches for which problem.
Here's the map.
DISC - decode communication styles
Best for: Teams with friction, miscommunication, or onboarding new members.
DISC profiles behavioral style - how someone communicates, makes decisions, and responds to pressure. It's fast, accessible, and immediately actionable for reducing team friction.
Use it when: You want people to understand each other better, fast.
Hogan - identify derailers under pressure
Best for: Senior leaders, promotion decisions, and high-stakes roles.
Hogan goes deeper. It measures the bright-side personality traits that drive day-to-day performance - and the dark-side "derailers" that emerge under stress, fatigue, or ambiguity. This is the assessment that catches the blind spots before they cost you.
Use it when: You're promoting someone, developing a senior leader, or trying to understand why a capable person keeps hitting the same wall.
360° - multi-angle feedback
Best for: Established leaders who need a full picture of how they're perceived.
A 360° evaluation gathers feedback from every direction - manager, peers, direct reports - and surfaces the gaps between how a leader sees themselves and how others experience them. It's the mirror that DISC and Hogan can't hold up alone.
Use it when: A leader is ready for honest, developmental feedback and has the trust capital to receive it.
How they fit together
These aren't either/or. The strongest leadership development programs layer them:
- DISC for team-wide communication fluency
- Hogan for individual leader depth and derailer awareness
- 360° for ongoing, multi-angle development
And then - the part most organizations skip - translate the insights into action: KPIs that reflect the gaps, SOPs that codify the changes, coaching that closes the distance between insight and behavior.
The real ROI
Assessments don't change behavior. What you do with them does.
The organizations that see real returns are the ones that treat the data as the beginning of the work, not the end of it. That's where the RPM Framework turns behavioral insight into measurable, floor-to-boardroom execution.
